Stay Overnight

A multi-day stay means that guests can experience more of what the Tawingo Outdoor Centre has to offer! Overnight accommodation and food service are available in the spring and fall.

Our wide range of activities gives us plenty of flexibility for variables such as weather, age, group dynamics, and skill level.

Cabin Accommodations

Cabins can comfortably accommodate 8-10 individuals. Each cabin has its own washroom, with a toilet and shower. The main space includes a sink, bunk beds, shelves for clothing and belongings, and windows for cross-ventilation. All cabins are supplied with hot and cold running water.

Smoke detectors are installed in ALL cabins.

Teacher/supervisors may choose to be housed in the same cabins with their students. Separate staff accommodation can be requested and accommodated.

The comfort, safety, and happiness of our guests are our main concerns while they are at Tawingo!

Outdoor Recreation

Canoeing

We have a large fleet of 10 person and 2 person canoes. Lessons are available for beginners, as well as more experienced paddlers.

Kayaking

Paddle around Lake Vernon in one of our kayaks. We offer lessons to ensure water safety and enjoyment.

Swimming

A beautiful beach and gradual entry allow us to divide our designated swimming areas by depth. Our waterfront also features two diving boards and a big red slide!

Hiking

Our 270 acres include many trails to choose from. Take in a breath-taking view of Lake Vernon from atop Eagle Mountain, visit beaver dams, and walk along beautiful trails that explore forests, meadows, ravines, and streams.

Sports

Basketball, tennis, badminton, soccer, football, Gaga Ball, 9-square, Volleyball, Mini Putt, and more! We have a large Sportsfield with all of the sports equipment you need.

Large Group Games

Our large fields, meadows, and forested areas are excellent spaces for large group games, such as Capture the Flag, Prisoner’s Base, Sticks, Cycles, Animal Survival, and more!

Archery

Learn how to safely use a bow and arrow in this precision sport. Try your hand at achieving a bullseye!

Outdoor Living Skills

Learn how to set up tents, cook over a fire, build shelters, tie knots, and stay safe in the outdoors.

Canoe Trips

Go on an overnight canoe trip to nearby island camp sites.

Camping

We have all the equipment you need to camp on-site. Sleep in tents or in one of our three treehouses!

Orienteering

Learn to navigate using a map and compass, and complete our fun and challenging orienteering course.

Leadership Skills

Cooperative Games

Emphasize mutual support and collective goal setting through a series of fun challenges that are designed to bring group members together towards a common goal.

Initiative Games

Work together as a group to find creative solutions to playful challenges along our Initiative Games Trail in the woods.

Low Ropes

Group members support individuals as they balance/walk on suspended cables on our Low Ropes Course.

Leadership Projects

We can offer project-based activities that are designed to bring a group of individuals together as a collective. The activities may be physical and outdoors or intellectual and in a classroom.

Motivational Speakers

Some of our staff travel extensively to deliver powerful, focused messages on leadership. Your group can add a presentation at no extra charge by virtue of being here at Tawingo.

Arts-Based Activities

Arts & Crafts

Bracelets, yarn-weaving, puppets, nature mobiles, tie dye, and more! Our Creation Station has a wide variety of crafting materials so that you can let your creativity lead the way!

Nature Art

Using elements found in nature, participants work in small groups to create temporary art installations, inspired by the work of Andy Goldsworthy.

Woodcraft

Nail art, wood-burning, bird houses, and more! Loon Lodge is equipped with saws, hammers, safety equipment, and everything you need to create art from wood.

Drama Games

Drama Games are not only fun, but they foster creativity, build self-confidence, and promote social inclusion.

Language Arts

Creative writing, nature-inspired poetry, journaling, vocabulary, word and language activities.

Sing Song

Sing together as a group, led by Tawingo’s experienced song leaders!

Musical Instruments

Our Music Room features a stand-up piano, digital piano, a set of adult and child-sized acoustic guitars, ukuleles, and a wide selection of percussion instruments.

Dance

Move and groove to the beat as you learn choreography in a variety of different dance styles.

Visual Arts Workshops

Many members of of staff team are talented visual artists, and can lead guided workshops in drawing, painting, and photography.

Evening Programs

Outdoor Campfire

What better way to finish the day than to gather around a campfire. We can offer a Tawingo-led campfire program, with songs, skits, stories, and games, or you may prefer to sit quietly and enjoy the elements of night sky with close friends by the warmth of the fire.

Skit Night

Each cabin group is invited to plan and perform a skit for the group. Even the chaperones are invited to perform! The Tawingo staff can help you plan, and will host the evening with an opening, closing, and fillers between skits.

Astronomy

On clear nights, marvel at the beauty of the stars above. Learn about different constellations in the night sky and look for shooting stars!

Night Hike

Staff set out with small groups of participants on a sensory hike and enjoy a series of activities that highlight the emotions and feelings that a night experience can offer.

Large Group Evening Games

There are so many fun games that can be played under the night sky. Let us lead one for your group!

    Nuts, nut products, or products that may contain nuts are NOT permitted at Tawingo. We are vigilant about creating a safe-food environment and watch our suppliers, ingredients, and food handling very carefully.

    We can safely accommodate guests with food allergies. Please inform us of all dietary concerns in writing prior to your visit, so that we can plan and prepare accordingly.

  • Meal Alternatives

    We can accommodate vegetarian, vegan, lactose-free, gluten-free and other specialized dietary needs when we are notified in advance of a visit.

  • We are an alcohol/substance-free facility

    To optimize safety, neither guests nor staff are permitted to bring or use alcohol, tobacco, or non-prescription drugs at any time or in any place while at Tawingo. We appreciate your understanding and support of this Tawingo policy.
